The Final List
Hello Collectors,
We finally made it to the end! The 2023 campaign was marked by a red hot start, then finished with the best wines of the vintage. We had a banner year with our Bordeaux Futures campaign, and we were rewarded with heavy allocations of the most thrilling wines of the vintage. This is the final list of what remains for sale, so if you waited till the end, today is your day!
The success of the 2023 vintage actually began shortly after harvest in 2022, where a substantial amount of rain filled the vineyards and prepared the vines for what was going to be an incredibly warm year. Thankfully that water kept the vines nourished, and a fortunately timed cloud cover kept the vines and bunches from baking in the sun. The net result was interesting- wines of moderate alcohol (12.5-14%), remarkable freshness, and plenty of terroir and racy acidity to make vibrant, beautiful wines. Many of the best wines (for example, Vieux Chateau Certan) taste like much cooler vintages, evoking a very Burgundian style with exceptional complexity and charm. The wines of more power and exuberance (Montrose, Pichon Lalande, Conseillante and Palmer) never feel over ripe or out of balance. They are worthy of their exceptional scores, and all 5 of these are easily among my favorites of the vintage.
The better news for 2023 was the pricing- many of which reverted to the famous pricing of the 2019 vintage! There are so many remarkable values this year, and wines like Rauzan Segla (a potential 100-point wine) is only $80 a bottle, and a potential 96-pointer for only $29! So many other wines are $100 with huge scores and tremendous quality. We bought very selectively this year, making sure to stick to the very best wines and estates. If you have any individual questions about quality or style, please feel free to reach out to me directly as I tasted every wine we are offering.
