Celebrate with Champagne

One bottle that lingered in my mind this week was Dhondt Grellet’s Les Nogers. Rich, layered, and effortlessly balanced, it showed beautifully both as an aperitif and alongside the opening courses of a dinner we hosted in San Francisco. Bottles like this are a reminder of why Champagne remains one of the most versatile and rewarding wines to collect.

Dhondt Grellet is exceptionally well represented, led by the outstanding 2019 Les Nogers (97 WA), a benchmark Blanc de Blancs from Premier Cru terroir, alongside the 2020 release, the superb Grand Cru Cramant (96 WA), and the mineral-driven Les Terres Fines (95 WA). The list also features several of Champagne’s greatest prestige cuvées, including 2002 Dom Pérignon (98 VM), 2014 Cristal (97 VM), 2004 Krug Vintage (98 VM), and the monumental 1996 Krug Vintage in 3L (97 WA), a true centerpiece for any serious cellar.

Grower Champagne lovers will find plenty to explore with Jacques Selosse Initial and Rosé, Adrien Renoir Elevage Long (95 JD), Pierre Péters Les Chétillons in magnum, Pierre Paillard Meunier Vieilles Vignes, and the rare collaboration Savart & Chartogne Éphémère 029.
