One of the best parts of this job is that I get to spend a lot of time browsing our inventory, especially since we’ve added some fantastic once-or twice-in-a-lifetime bottles lately (here’s looking at you DRC and Salon!). For today’s offer, approachability was on my mind as I pulled forward some gems that maybe you’ve overlooked. My aim was also to find that elusive cross-section of exceptional value and maturity, and this offer is for anyone seeking to stock a cellar with wines that hit that sweet spot. I’ve thrown in a few younger vintages that are must-haves as well. 

Standouts include 2000 Bordeaux and verticals of two monopoles, Clos des Lambrays and Clos des Cortons – I am surprised those are still here! While we try not to get too caught up in ratings, this selection certainly touts some high Burghound scores. Pro tip: grab a few bottles of rising star Vincent Paindavoine’s 2022 Les Fleurières before he becomes more well-known. If you aren’t yet familar with Vincent, his family has worked DRC’s vines for decades, all the while purchasing and working their own small parcels in Vosne-Romanée, carving out their own niche in the pantheon and bringing their tremendous expertise to crafting their own wines. A true collector’s item that would be glorious for the holidays is the rare 2001 Grange des Péres Rouge – I think I will be adding one of these to my cart and building Thanksgiving around it!

Next, Champagne. This lineup represents terrific value at every tier, from the benchmark luxury cuvées to grower gems. Dom Pérignon, Cristal, and Taittinger Comtes show their pedigree in vintages that continue to appreciate in both quality and collectability, while Bollinger’s 2008 La Grande Année stands out as one of the great modern releases for its precision and power at an almost unbelievable price for its stature. On the grower side, Chartogne-Taillet, Savart, and Pierre Péters continue to redefine value, offering terroir expression, energy, and finesse at approachable price points.
