The 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has quite a strong reduction on the nose-struck match. Brown leaves and brown spices rather dominate the aromatics and usurp the fruit. Lots of stem addition here. The palate is medium-bodied with stern and rigid tannins. A little dry in the middle and then the finish feels structured but lacks flair and minerality. Obdurate and unyielding, yet why do I keep coming back to retaste it? Maybe a wine with shortcomings, but it is still engaging and fascinating, plus it improves in the glass. So mercurial. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
