The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère 1er Cru has a very heavy reduction on the nose that occludes the terroir expression and renders it rather generic. The palate is quite intense and concentrated, with a fine bead of acidity that counterbalances the honeyed, gingered fruit. There is good density on the finish, but, as is a common complaint with several Pulignys, this lacks tension and mineralité through the close. As such, it is difficult to see where this will head in the future. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2034
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchere was showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with scents of pear, citrus oil, orange blossom, dried white flowers, toasted nuts and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it’s concentrated and textural, with tangy acids, chalky extract and a long, saline finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045
