(tasted from tank; from a hillside site rich in white marl soil): Bright, light yellow. Musky lemon and lime aromas are complicated by white flowers and chalk. Densely flavored and intense, showing inviting sweetness to its peach and pear fruit flavors. A nicely bracing wine with the added thickness of the year. Finishes tactile and quite long. These vines are planted at a density of 14,000 per hectare, vs. 30,000 for the special Haute Densite bottling.
The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derriere Chez Edouard Rouge has a pure blackberry and raspberry coulis-scented bouquet with well-integrated oak, a touch of mint coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly edgy/chalky tannin. There is a conspicuous line of acidity here that imparts a citric freshness and a pleasing angularity towards the pointed finish. Give this a year or two in bottle for the hardness to abrade.
Anticipated maturity: 2018-2025
