The 2015 Pichon-Baron has an engaging, complex bouquet of blackberry, cedar, mint and graphite, demonstrating more cohesion and more conviction than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and extremely well-judged acidity that imbues this Pauillac with a sense of effortlessness and class lacking in some of its peers. A stunning 2015 and one of the greatest releases from the estate. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
The 2015 Pichon-Longueville Baron was a superlative wine from barrel and I have no reason to change that view now that it is in bottle. It possesses and extraordinarily pure but intense bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, crushed stone and graphite that seem to gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin, great depth and cohesion, gently gripping the mouth although not as tannic or as masculine as I was anticipating, exhibiting great finesse on the finish. This is certainly within first growth quality.
Anticipated maturity: 2022-2050
