The 2011 St. Eden is very pretty, if a touch understated and shy. Mint, dark cherry, pine, spice and licorice give the wine its distinctive savory personality. The 2011 is nicely done, and although it is not quite the overachiever some of the other 2011s are today, it does have more depth and overall intrigue than the 2012 in this tasting. I very much like the energy here.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2031
The 2011 St. Eden is earthier and harder than its 2011 siblings. Dense with sweet tannins, lots of oak, black currant and kirsch notes, and medium to full body, it should be consumed over the next 10-15 years.
