The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Clos des Ruchottes is drinking well, bursting with a pure and largely fruit-driven bouquet of raspberries, cherries, rose petals and orange rind. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, supple and open-knit, with a fleshy core of fruit, melting tannins and succulent acids. It’s a pretty wine that’s somewhat short on complexity right now, though perhaps that will come with time.
Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039
Good full red. High-toned, deeply spicy aromas of maraschino cherry, smoke, earth and minerals. Big, rich and harmonious, with lovely floral complexity to its red fruit flavors. Wonderfully silky and round without leaving any impression of undue weight. Extremely pliant wine with very supple tannins and a rich, long finish. Beautifully balanced from the start but Rousseau’s top cuvees in 2009 should really be cellared for at least a decade.
