2009 Chateau Clinet, Pomerol 1×1.5L

The 2009 Clinet has a clean and precise bouquet, more backward than I expected. Beautiful black cherry and raspberry fruit with just a hint of dried blood, ferrous notes in the background (this bottle less opulent than the one at Farr’s tasting.) The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, well judged acidity, hints of mocha and dark chocolate filtering through the black fruit with a sensual and silky smooth finish. Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Clinet is showing quite a lot of evolution on the nose with notes of new leather, fried spices and dried herbs over a core of dried mulberries and prunes with a touch of redcurrant jelly. Full-bodied and decadently fruited with loads of mature, savory layers, it has a chewy texture and finishes on a dried herbs note. [Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 22/02/2019]
