God medium red. Riper on the nose than the Zonchera but without that wine’s energy, offering reticent aromas of roasted berries, plum and chocolate. Fat and sweet but a bit dry-edged, lacking the depth and flavor development of the best Barolos here. Finishes with granular tannins. Where can this go in the bottle? [Stephen Tanzer, 01/11/2013]

This is where things start getting tricky. The 2009 Barolo Brunate opens with savory aromas of barbecue smoke, cured meat and crushed granite, although there is not much fruity brightness to hope for long cellar aging.
