(15% alcohol): Saturated bright ruby. Sexy, very ripe, high-toned aromas of blackberry, plum, licorice, tobacco and hot rocks. Like liquid velvet on the palate–hugely rich and deep, superripe but not roasted or tired. No rough edges here! Conveys a strong impression of Rutherford dust. The outstanding, slowly building finish indicates that there’s more to come; I’d hate to have drunk up my stock of this wine several years ago. Very long and still a bit youthfully warm. Superb.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030
A staggeringly great wine from this iconic property in Rutherford, Scarecrow’s 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) boasts a dense ruby/purple color, a deep, rich, full-bodied style with perfect balance/equilibrium, stunning purity, lots of creme de cassis, minerality and floral notes, a persistent finish, and a staggering personality that is a sign of singularity as well as greatness. The finesse of the tannins is fabulous. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034
