Tasting Notes

Vinous 90

The 2004 Léoville Poyferré has a slight menthol note on the nose, mainly black fruit with a touch of licorice. It just needs a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a licorice-infused entry. It’s done in a modern style (dare I say, typical of Michel Rolland at that time). An opulent finish just misses a bit of bandwidth. A little New World in style? [Neal Martin, 06/06/2024]

Anticipated maturity: 2024-2034

Robert Parker 89

This has a more masculine nose, cedar and sous-bois, blackberry, tertiary scents developing in the glass. Hint of singed leather. The palate is medium-bodied, well-defined, slightly abrasive tannins at the moment – a young pup yapping too loudly. Sharp, pointed finish. Fresh, but needs time to settle. Drink 2011-2018. Tasted July 2009. [Neal Martin, 07/01/2009]

Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018
