Tasted at the Burgundy 2003 dinner (non-blind.) This is a stunning Clos-de-Beze. It has an otherworldly bouquet of red-berried fruits, wild strawberry, oyster shell and just a hint of fresh fig. You could sit and nose this all day. Wonderful definition. The palate is medium-bodied with a wonderful sense of natural balance. Just effortless. Sensuous, silky tannins that belies the concentration and power under the bonnet. Wild strawberry, raspberry, a touch of cranberry and pomegranate. This is an approachable Clos de-Beze but if you can resist the waiter’s friend then I would wait another 4-5 years. Drink now-2025+ Tasted April 2009.
Anticipated maturity: 2009-2025
Good deep bright red. Enticing aromas of black raspberry, coffee, mocha and sexy oak. Then less exotic than usual for this wine at this early stage of its evolution: saline and savory, with notes of underbrush but not the normal India n spices. Perhaps a bit youthfully tight today. Quite restrained in its sweetness and not yet showing much complexity. Finishes with big, broad tannins and very good length.
