The first red is the 2002 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Jean Grivot, Sadly, its hefty price tag did not protect it from light TCA. How frustrating. The taint was not strong and did allow a glimpse of a great Richebourg.
An exceptional wine, Grivot’s 2002 Richebourg explodes from the glass with violets, roses, blackberries, dark cherries, and spices. Marrying elegance with unbridled power, it is a medium to full-bodied, satin-textured jewel. Cloves, assorted candied black fruits, and red cherries can be discerned in its complex flavor profile, and it appears this wine is holding loads of fruit in reserve. Armed with gorgeous depth, concentration, and length, this is a candidate for drinking between 2009 and 2024. Bravo! Importer: Diageo Chateau and Estate Wines Company, New York, NY; tel.
