The 2001 Chambertin Grand Cru ranks as one of the finest vintages of the era, Eric Rousseau conjuring a blissful wine that is reaching its peak after 24 years. Surprisingly deep in hue, this has a beguiling nose with blackberry, cassis and light forest floor mixed with black truffle aromas. The palate is likewise quite youthful, with fine backbone, real grip and a symmetry that leaves you lost for words. Just perfect acidity, almost Vosne-like. I absolutely adore this Chambertin. Tasted alongside the 2001 Clos Saint Jacques, the 2001 Chambertin Grand Cru possesses an ethereal, floral bouquet of raspberry jam, Morello cherries, minerals and undergrowth, gaining in intensity all the time in the glass.
