The 2001 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse is a little cleaner and more defined on the nose compared to the 2000, offering brambly red fruit, ferrous notes and hints of wild mushroom, quite perfumed though not complex. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly more density and grip compared to the 2000. Soothing and earthy toward the finish, which tapers a little.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2036
This is a pleasant surprise after what must have been a fault bottle back in 2007. There is good intensity on the nose with dark berries, fruitcake and a touch of ox-blood. Smooth on the entry with fine structure, there is a palpable edgy quality to this Duffau with blueberry and liquorice tinged with brine on the sinewy finish. Very good grip, this is an impressive ’01. Tasted November 2010.
