The 1993 Latricieres Chambertin is a thoroughly enjoyable, if not spectacular, grand cru, archetypal older-style Faiveley: masculine, tannic and a little rustic. Now at 21 years of age, the nose has mellowed with touches of warm leather, cedar and a touch of iodine (that took me more toward Vosne than Gevrey.) Tertiary scents begin to emerge with time. The palate is nicely defined, but perhaps lacks a little weight for a grand cru, even for this age and vintage. The acidity is quite noticeable with an almost Barolo-like finish touched with bay-leaf, though that finish seems to become more diffuse with time in the glass. This is a pleasant Latricieres, although I would drink any bottles now.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018
