Tasted at “The Sampler†icon tasting in London. I have tasted few vintages of the rare Cuvee Cathelin and this 1991 makes me rue the fact that I am not a millionaire! The 1991 just has a beautiful, melted bouquet with subtle gamey notes emerging: garrigues, white fennel, thyme and a hint of vanilla emanating from the oak. It is very focused and refined ” much more captivating than I remember the 1990 many years ago. The palate is medium-bodied with hung meat, sage, white pepper and fennel on the entry. The tannins are a little chalky, but it is very well balanced and full of personality, generosity and refinement. This is just a beautiful Hermitage. Tasted December 2012.
I was blown away by Chave’s 1991 Cuvée Cathelin. Still incredibly fresh, this vibrant, opulent wine revealed extraordinary precision and nuance in a full-bodied style. Dark cherries, cassis, earthiness, smoke and graphite all made an appearance in this breathtakingly pure, expressive wine.
