Bordeaux Vintage Review: The Greatest Hits

I’ve been to a lot of live music this summer, from stadium shows to street fests, and I love a perfect playlist that hits all the emotions. So today, we’re bringing the best-of compilation to Bordeaux, with a lineup drawn from some of the region’s finest vintages of the past two decades.

The greatest hits are all here: First Growths, Right Bank royalty, legendary vintages and a few large formats worth turning the volume up for. The last bit of spectacular 2000 Lafleur leads off a remarkable vintage at the 25-year mark, while 2009 La Mission Haut-Brion and Lafite show off the richness and generosity that made 2009 so immediately celebrated. The monumental 2010 vintage brings Latour, Mouton, Montrose and Angélus, among others.

Then there are 2015 and 2016, two vintages we reach for again and again. 2015 Haut-Brion and Palmer are joined by 2016 Cheval Blanc, Lafite, Margaux and Haut-Brion at the top of the marquee. Back to back 100-pointers 2015 and 2016 Haut-Brion leaves me a little star-struck – and high ratings abound, of course, but we think you will be the best judge of these incredible wines.

There’s plenty from the younger vintages, too, including 2018 Palmer in 3L to age decades and 2019 Latour and Trotanoy. Bordeaux offers a combination of consistency, quality and longevity that keeps its fanbase coming back.
