Simply the Best of 2023
Hello Collectors,
If you go back and carefully read the subject line, you won’t see our typical end. We always tout “more”, but in this offer, there isn’t a lot more to highlight in this list beyond the few names we teased. Why would we do such a thing? We distilled our list of the 2023 Bordeaux down to the highest rated and greatest values of the vintage. No long list to cloud your view, just dizzying scores that represent the very best of the vintage.
I traveled to Bordeaux in April to taste the vintage, and my notes of the best wines of the vintage very much jive with what you see here. Montrose and Pichon Lalande are both pouring on the quality and are nipping at the heels of the first growths in terms of quality…but at a fraction of the price. Right bank lovers will swoon over the 2023 Conseillante, a wine of remarkable depth and complexity. Don’t be surprised if (and probably when) all 3 of these hit the magical triple-digit score. Canon and Carmes Haut Brion are two other red hot names in Bordeaux, and both should easily score in the upper range of their current ratings.
As we have highlighted all along, there is amazing value in this vintage, and the wines under $100 should not be overlooked. Pontet Canet and Rauzan Ségla are easily the two best bangs for the buck in that price range. Those 6 bottles left of the Beau-Séjour Bécot likely won’t last more than 15 minutes into today’s offer. The Sauternes were brilliant this year as well, with Suduiraut headlining the very best the vintage has to offer.
