Dauvissat, Dominus, Harlan, MacDonald, PYCM, Scarecrow and More!
Safe and Effective
Hello Collectors,
So much of what we do here is sell wines that really don’t need much of an introduction, since they are sought after the world over. But we also aim to educate, which is why we take the time to write these introductions each week. No matter how many times you’ve seen a wine, do you really know much more than the name? Today’s offer is all about the names you know, along with a few that you really should.
The biggest highlight of today’s list is our strongest collective offering of California wines in quite some time. We dive in headfirst with the endlessly popular Dominus, a wine that seemingly hasn’t let up despite more than 40 years of history behind it, with one man driving the ship, Christian Moueix. We follow that with another titan of Napa, Bill Harlan and his namesake estate. Now more than 35 years old, Harlan was one of the original Napa cult wines and continues to have a devoted following thanks to brilliant winemaking. Speaking of cults, newer to the scene but every bit as sought after, we have MacDonald and Scarecrow, both of which rely on old vines to produce some of Napa’s greatest wines.
Following last week’s top-heavy European offer, we kept things mostly to more modest price tags today, though there are definitely a few exceptions. Chablis comes on strong with Dauvissat and Fèvre, while Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey makes four different appearances on the list. Staying with whites, don’t miss Borgo del Tiglio in today’s offer. This wine is worthy of every single one of those 97 points, and I was thrilled to have the chance to try it!
Selosse-trained Ulysse Collin makes a splash today, as does another cult Champagne producer, Agrapart, now approaching two decades of stardom. We sadly weren’t able to add the DRC we planned to include in today’s offer since someone snapped it up before this email went out, but how about Prince Florent de Mérode? The domaine retired from winemaking, and its historic holdings are now farmed by DRC. There’s a lot more here than just the big names, so make sure to dig in!
