My Shopping Cart

Hello Collectors,

I dream about what I would do if I won the lottery. I’m sure you can all guess what the first thing someone with my role would do- buy a whole bunch of wine! So this week as I was creating the Friday List, I literally went shopping for myself. It’s a combination of collectables, iconic drinkers, and a nice amount of drinkers that I could enjoy during the week.

Burgundy is my biggest love, so I would immediately grab some La Tâche. For me, that’s the peak of great Burgundy and a must-have. I’ve long had a passion for the neighboring vineyard- La Grand Rue– the Monopole for the Lamarche family (and huge value, comparably). Ponsot’s heyday of winemaking are among the most memorable wines I’ve had, and the 1991 is a must-own too. On the value side, I will never pass up Chevillon! Some mature Rousseau Bèze never hurts too (and the 2012s are terrific). My love for white Burgundy begun with Chablis, and Dauvissat and Raveneau will always have a place in my cellar.

I’m a sucker for the old school Cali wines, so things like Beta, Ridge Monte Bello and Togni will have to come along. Similarly with right bank great Figeac and La Conseillante– both of which have been staples for the last 25 years for me. Gotta mix in the great Champagnes, and Cédric Bouchard and Philipponnat have been favorites since the very start too! Italy has some home run values from both Giacomo Conterno and Produttori Del Barbaresco, and I can’t think of a better way to buy under $100 a bottle with both.
