Sassicaia and Tignanello New Releases
Dynamic Duo
Hello Collectors,
The history books credit Sassicaia as the first Super Tuscan to reach the market. The story actually began nearly 30 years earlier, when owner Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted Cabernet Sauvignon in 1944 and produced the wine solely for his own consumption. It wasn’t until 1971 that Sassicaia was released commercially. Another Tuscan trailblazer, Piero Antinori, grew frustrated with the restrictions of the Chianti regulations, and in 1978 Tignanello followed, helping reshape the future of Italian wine.
Fast forward to today, and these remain arguably the two most popular Super Tuscans year after year. Both wines are expected to see strong demand from the 2023 vintage, thanks to another excellent growing season in Tuscany. While the vintage was not without its challenges, the top producers appear to have excelled, and we hope to offer more of the region’s leading estates in the coming months.
Sassicaia is the obvious headliner, already boasting a triple-digit score. We are still awaiting additional reviews for the 2023 Tignanello, but expectations are high and we anticipate more strong press to follow. Best of all, these wines are already stateside and should arrive at our warehouse within the next six weeks or so.
