Coche-Dury, Prévost, Rousseau & More to Fall For

Valentine’s Day, especially when it falls on a Saturday, feels like the perfect excuse to slow down, savor something (or someone!) that’s soulful, indulgent, and has the promise of growing more beautiful with time. That’s a tall order for a human, but if you’re hoping for these qualities in a wine, we’ve got you.

Jérôme Prévost’s La Closerie Les Béguines remains one of my great Champagne loves. Old-vine Pinot Meunier, Burgundian in spirit, layered with quiet intensity that makes it impossible to rush. For something rare and celebratory, his Rosé Fac-Simile – a literal “copy” of the style of the blanc de blancs in its Rosé iteration – is always sought after and especially fitting this week.

Two bottlings of Les Amoureuses – Mugnier’s current release and an aged Groffier – represent Chambolle’s finest Premier Cru, standing shoulder to shoulder with the village’s Grand Crus. Quintarelli’s Amarone is the ultimate expression of Venetian tradition – rich, opulent, rare, it’s a masterpiece – a truly enveloping experience.

White Burgundy lovers are well covered: Niellon’s Chevalier-Montrachet shines for the future, Jobard’s Meursault Charmes is supple and rounded, Roulot’s Clos des Bouchères precise and energetic, and Coche-Dury’s Meursault adds crystalline elegance. For red Burgundy enthusiasts Rousseau’s Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, along with Bruno Clair’s Clos Saint-Jacques, offer profound depth and lasting charm – don’t miss the aged vintages that are entering their prime.

And for those who prefer romance neat in a Glencairn rather than stemware: Pappy, plus Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year and Family Reserve 15 Year. Something here is sure to capture your heart, but if not, please reach out we’ll happily do some matchmaking for you.
