The Standard-Bearers of Chardonnay

Coche-Dury, Raveneau, Roulot and More

Hello Collectors,

It’s not often we can assemble an offer like this, but it’s always our goal. Few, if any, can rival the outstanding quality these Chardonnay specialists achieve year after year. They are among the most sought-after producers in the world, and if you’ve tasted their wines, you know why. Today, we dive a little deeper into each estate, as their stories are just as captivating as the wines themselves.

We begin in the northernmost reaches of Burgundy, in Chablis, with the incomparable Raveneau. Founded by François in 1948, the domaine was passed on to his sons, Bernard and Jean-Marie, who continue the family legacy with precision and dedication. We are thrilled to offer six-packs each of the 2017 Valmur and 2017 Montée de Tonnerre. These bottlings capture the essence of Chablis—bracing acidity, striking minerality, and terroir expression—layered with a texture and mouthfeel that stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of the Côte d’Or. They are truly singular wines that deserve a place in any cellar.

Roulot follows a not-so-dissimilar story. Jean-Marc Roulot carried forward the domaine after the untimely passing of his father, and over the past 36 years has expanded its reach and acclaim. Among his most celebrated recent additions is Clos des Bouchères, a monopole and premier cru vineyard with old vines dating back to 1950. While the legendary Perrières may overshadow it in reputation, Clos des Bouchères has emerged as a flagship bottling in recent years. We also have a small offering of the highly rated Poruzots, along with the excellent value Vireuils.

At Coche-Dury, another father-and-son succession shaped greatness. Jean-François elevated the estate to legendary status, and his son Raphaël continues to uphold that legacy. Even their humble Bourgogne Blanc has the power to stop you in your tracks. Just down the road in Chassagne, Michel Niellon brings more than 50 vintages of experience, producing both exceptional values and grand expressions. From his village Chassagne to his flagship Chevalier, his range offers something for every collector.

We close with a personal favorite: Hubert Lamy. The family’s roots stretch back to 1640, but it was Olivier Lamy who elevated this Saint-Aubin domaine into one of Burgundy’s most exciting names. While Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet remains the flagship, two bottlings stand out for their uniqueness: Chez Edouard and the extraordinary Haute Densité section within it. Planted at a staggering 28,000 vines per hectare (compared to Burgundy’s typical 10,000), the competition for nutrients creates unparalleled concentration and intensity. Much like today’s other highlights, these wines are truly without equal.
