A Century of Burgundy Greatness

Marquis d'Angerville

Hello Collectors,

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is one of the pillars of Volnay. Their glorious efforts have stood the test of time, making them one of the most collectible red wine estates in the Côte de Beaune, an area where white wines typically dominate the pantheon. Sleek, elegant, and rich, their wines capture the beauty of Burgundy across the entire range. With the release of the 2023s, we’re thrilled to also offer a superb selection of back vintages (dating to 1989), along with their other estate in the Jura, Domaine du Pélican.

Winemaking at one of Burgundy’s most prestigious estates was something of a second act for Guillaume d’Angerville. Following the sudden and tragic loss of his father in 2003, Guillaume left a successful career in investment banking at J.P. Morgan to take the helm of the family domaine. He quickly implemented major agricultural improvements and, over the past two decades, has transformed d’Angerville into one of Burgundy’s benchmark estates.

The latest d’Angerville release represents another year of exceptional quality. The wines display an extra layer of elegance and refinement, offering some early approachability, a rarity given their usual longevity. While Clos des Ducs and Taille Pieds have long been the flagships, Champans and Caillerets have quietly emerged as must-have bottlings. The Meursault was also a recent revelation for me, holding its own impressively in a side-by-side tasting with Lafon and Roulot.

Despite his tremendous success in Burgundy, Guillaume felt his vision was incomplete and set his sights on the Jura. When the legendary Jacques Puffeney retired, Guillaume seized the opportunity to acquire some of the region’s most storied vines. He added additional small parcels to establish Domaine du Pélican. The results have been stellar so fa, honoring the region’s winemaking traditions while delivering wines that are fresh, pure, and unmistakably precise, much like his work in Volnay.
