Hiding in Plain Sight

A Duo of Magnificent Vintages from Vietti

Hello Collectors,

The commune of Verduno has become a hot spot for Barolo lately, and most specifically the hallowed hillside of Monvigliero. The soils are rich in limestone and clay- the absolute perfect combination for Nebbiolo. Producers like Alessandria, Burlotto, Paolo Scavino and Vietti are producing stunning Barolo from this vineyard, and the critics are raving. Add in the fact that Vietti is working with 40+ year old vines, and it should really come as no surprise as to why these are such highly lauded and highly sought after wines.

The two wines below represent only the second and third releases from this single vineyard for Vietti. Despite that, the critics used words like “stunning”, “gorgeous”, and “ethereal” – all words normally reserved for the very best of Barolo. The vineyard composition and vine age we noted above give the Vietti team the proper tools to craft a masterpiece.

While 2019 is a highly heralded vintage, the 2020 is a charming and inviting year that should not be overlooked. For the crowd that doesn’t want to wait forever for the wine to come around, this is the perfect year to be buying for short term consumption. The “Pinot-like” beauty of the vintage shines through in spades, creating an already approachable wine. The 2019s will last for a long time but will provide a huge contrast. A wine that Antonio Galloni described as “explosive”, this will benefit from some aging in the cellar.  We recommend that you stock up, as these won’t last!
