Piedmont New Arrivals:
Monfortino, Giacosa Riservas & More
Hello Collectors,
We’ve recently added some tremendous single-owner collections, and throughout, Piedmont continues to deliver some of the most cellar-worthy wines in the world.
Anchored by benchmark producers like Giacomo Conterno, Bruno Giacosa, Gaja, and Giuseppe Mascarello, today’s offer spans both classic back vintages and recent releases from top crus across Barolo and Barbaresco. The Monfortinos alone on this offer are well worth your attention – as you may know, Monfortino is only made in the best vintages and it’s truly the reference point for traditionally made Barolo. The perfect 2004 is here for you, and we’ve had the opportunity to taste some back vintages lately including the 2001 and they are astoundingly gorgeous.
Other can’t miss bottles include Bruno Giacosa’s rare back-vintage Santo Stefano Riservas (1982, 1985) and the 1989 Falletto that shows the house at full maturity. To add to your storage, Giuseppe Mascarello’s 2020 Monprivato brings classic, precise Barolo character, while Gaja’s Conteisa and Sperss add a modern, polished counterpoint. The five-liter bottle of Gaja Sperss is a big one – patience is required especially in this format. You (and your best friends) could drink it now, but I’d give it another five years in storage and it will drink well for another two decades or more.
Rounding things out are beautifully sited crus from Aldo Conterno (Gran Bussia Riserva), Roberto Voerzio, and Produttori del Barbaresco Riservas, and along with some excellent $100-and-under selections, this a particularly well-rounded and thoughtful Piedmont offering.
