A Defining Run of Historic Napa Vintages
2013 - 2019
Hello Collectors,
2013, 2016, 2018, and 2019 represent what we think of as the best modern run of Napa Valley vintages of the past 15 years. Each offers a slightly different expression of Napa at its peak, but today’s offer highlights the wines that share the same qualities we treasure: balance and longevity, with each vintage beautifully interpreted by the very best of the top producers.
Classic 2013 is the structured and precise while absolutely built for the long haul, with two perfect scores – pro tip: we usually sell out quickly of any 2013 that comes in! 2016 is nearly flawless (as represented by this selection of perfection-pushing scores). It’s tempting to pop a few open now, but they are clearly capable of decades in the cellar. 2018 leans more opulent, showcasing Napa’s ripeness without excess, making it especially appealing both short- and long-term. In contrast, 2019 brings freshness and energy, pairing vibrant acidity with concentration; it may be the most immediately drinkable of the four, without sacrificing aging potential.
Together, these vintages capture Napa Valley at a moment when power and restraint were in rare alignment. Critics agree: you may notice that all of these selections are rated 95 points or higher. Why should you buy? These are wines that reward patience but also work for collectors looking to build verticals and for those who want some incredible bottles to open now. I am a firm believer that selective, top-notch Napa Cabernet should always be a part of a well-rounded collection. As always, the wines are in pristine condition, well-priced and all from collectors who store with us.
The wines on offer read like a who’s who of modern Napa Cabernet. Multiple vintages of BOND offer a rare chance to explore the house’s single-vineyard philosophy across four terrific years. Scarecrow appears repeatedly, underscoring its consistency as one of Napa’s most coveted estates, while Schrader Cellars brings a deep bench of Beckstoffer To Kalon and Las Piedras bottlings, including the always near-perfect Old Sparky. Highlights are rounded out by Realm (including The Bard and The Tempest), Kongsgaard, Chappellet Pritchard Hill, J.H. Wheeler, and Plumpjack.
