Aged Bordeaux and Burgundy: In Stock!

Welcome to Monday! Amid all the new releases we are offering, we have heard from many of you that you are looking for some current drinkers – preferably Bordeaux and Burgundy, and ideally some with more aging potential as well. We hear you! While we do recommend stocking up on futures, new releases and younger vintages in consideration of your future self (and here’s the shameless plug to remind you we are also a storage company for said acquisitions!), sometimes you must have some instant gratification. To that end, we have curated a list of in-stock, ready to ship, current drinkers that are either at the beginning of their drinking window or at the top of their game.

We’ve got a range of great Bordeaux from the legendary 2009 vintage: the left banks are just now coming into an initial lovely drinking era, with the right banks ready to drink, and both have decades of life left. Look for Léoville Poyferré, Palmer, Pontet-Canet, and mags of always excellent Smith-Haut-Lafitte; and from the right bank, classics Château Canon-la-Gaffelière, La Fleur-Pétrus, Tertre Rôteboeuf and Trotanoy. We have just 2 bottles left of the incredible 1989 Haut-Brion (100 WA, 100 VM) – you’ve heard it from me before, but this hands down is my favorite all-time wine anytime, anywhere. You don’t see a lot on the secondary market here in the US – I think that once you’ve had a bottle, it’s an incredibly difficult decision to sell, and for good reason. It’s simply spectacular!

And that leads us to aged Burgundy – while we do have some younger vintages of Roumier Bonnes-Mares available, the 2000 would be excellent drinking now. The 2005 Mugnier Musigny (98+ VM, 99 BH) is still very much on the young side of its trajectory with a couple decades left, and it is also now entering an approachable phase. The remainder is a who’s who list: Anne Gros, Bachelet, Tremblay and Rousseau among other Burgundian superstars. As always, wines have been inspected to meet our exacting standards.
