The 2022 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from the lower tier of the vineyard on soil with a lower bedrock than Roumier and Rousseau’s. Matured in 70% new oak, it conveys a vivid image of the sea, or more accurately, an estuary on a cold winter’s day. Just a touch of brine tinctures that black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black cherry and bilberry fruit. Again, there’s a strong marine influence: pitted black olives and briny notes towards the long and elegant finish. It’s not the best I have tasted from this vineyard, but it’s a seriously fine Ruchottes nonetheless.
Anticipated maturity: 2027-2050
