The 2021 Beaune Les Grèves 1er Cru comes from century-old vines that Lafarge told me were “in good form”, producing just 12hl/ha in this frost-affected vintage. It has a classy bouquet with mineral-driven red fruit, precise with bergamot and tea leaf notes emerging. The palate is fresh on the entry with finer tannins than the Clos des Aigrots, perhaps just missing a bit of substance towards the finish, but there’s plenty of transparency and terroir expression in situ.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2040
