The 2020 La Romanée Grand Cru has a beautiful bouquet with pure redcurrant and cranberry fruit, deftly integrated oak, laser-like precision and focus. This is Pinot Noir at its apotheosis. The palate is medium-bodied with mineral-laden fruit that presently hides behind a new oak veneer. This feels polished, perhaps a little too much, but that's just its youthfulness. Orange rind and a dash of white pepper build towards the finish with a long, lightly spiced aftertaste. Stunning. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. [Neal Martin, 10/01/2024]
