The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet. The oak is better integrated than Gouges’s Les Saint-Georges, hence there is superior delineation and more typicité and brightness. The palate is velvety smooth with fine acidity. There is a veneer of new oak (François Frères?) that needs to be assimilated, though it has panache, and there is admirable persistence on the finish. Again, like many of its peers in the northerly part of the appellation, there is an opulence that might be off-putting for those seeking “classic Burgundy,” but it is undeniably well balanced and seductive. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2027-2048
