The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru displays comparatively more new oak on the nose. It’s quite creamy and almost New World in style. That said, there is sufficient fruit to soak it up with aging. The palate is medium-bodied and succulent. Fleshy, with hints of dates and mocha, the oak is just a touch heavily applied toward the finish. It’s difficult to see how this will evolve. Time will tell, though it showed far better when I encountered it from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
After the more reserved Les Cailles, I was taken aback by the expressiveness of Chevillon’s exquisite 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges. Bursting with aromas of wild berries, orange rind, peonies, rose petals and spices, it’s medium to full-bodied, lively and elegant, with superb depth at the core, ultra-refined tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
