The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very perfumed and floral bouquet that takes time to settle in the glass, displaying lavender-tinged red fruit, potpourri and very fine definition, with subtle use of whole bunch. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins. This possesses fine acidity, commendable depth and perhaps just a little tightness toward the finish compared to its peers, but there is wonderful density here. This needs four or five more years in bottle, but, my word, I don’t think I have ever been smitten by a young Jadot like this, and it romps home as best CSJ in show. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2028-2050
