The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussiere 1er Cru has a lovely, well-defined nose of dark berry fruit, sous-bois and a touch of ash. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and just a touch of bitterness that imparts welcome edginess. Showing fine depth, this is not overly complex, but there is decent length. There’s potential, but it needs to foment more personality. This is certainly not one of Roumier’s best cuvees this vintage, though this is often not one of his strongest cards. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2040
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of raspberries, smoky cherries, rich soil tones and warm spices, Roumier’s 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussiere is medium to full-bodied, lively and vibrant, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by youthfully chalky tannins that assert themselves on the finish. The most underrated wine in the Roumier cellar, this is a fine prospect for the patient.
