The 2019 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a linear and taut nose. It’s minerally and complex with orange blossom and lime hints. There is a palpable sense of energy, but after ten minutes, that seems to ebb a little faster than I would have liked. The palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity, tensile, and plenty of energy. Yes, the alcohol does feel a little high (felt at the back of the throat), but there is satisfying breeding toward the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2038
The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is very promising indeed, wafting from the glass with notes of citrus zest, buttered orchard fruit, toasted almonds, honeycomb and mandarin. Medium to full-bodied, deep and tightly wound, with terrific concentration and cut, it’s elegantly muscular, with chalky structuring dry extract and a long, precise finish.
