The 2019 Troplong Mondot is composed and beautifully-focused on the nose, well-defined with vivacious brambly red fruit suffused with minerals and black truffle shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, finely proportioned, fresh yet without huge weight at the back end. This gives it a degree of elegance that is admirable. Charming and with long-term prospects. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2050
The 2019 Mondot derives from Merlot growing on newly acquired vineyards on Saint-A milion’s limestone plateau that can’t be included in the grand vin until the region’s new classification is finalized. Offering up aromas of wild berries, rose petals and coniferous forest floor, it’s medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent, with a supple, charming profile and a penetrating finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2039
