The 2019 St. Eden is another wine the shows a move towards greater focus and energy in these wines. There’s plenty of the classic St. Eden opulence, but also a good deal of tension. The 2019 has shut down mightily post-bottling, which is likely a very good sign for its long-term prospects. In fact, the St. Eden is one of the most reticent of the Bond 2019s, something that was rarely, if ever, the case previously. Dark fruit, gravel, mocha and dried herbs build into the long, substantial finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2039
From an iron-rich site just north of the Oakville Crossroad, the 2019 St. Eden boasts effusive aromas of ripe cherries and briary raspberries framed by subtle cedar shadings. Full-bodied, silky, plush and long, this is a terrific all-around effort that deserves a few years in the cellar and should drink well for at least two decades thereafter.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045
