The pure Mencía 2019 Cardia Capitana comes from 20-year-old vines on slate soils at higher altitude than Seoane and with a south exposure. The grapes achieved good ripeness in a very low yielding vintage after the hail of 2018. The wine has moderate alcohol at 13.4% and a fruit-driven nose with notes of wild berries and herbs. It has acid berry acidity and very fine, slightly chalky tannins. 900 bottles were filled in November 2020 after 11 months in French oak barrels. [Luis Gutierrez, 02/28/2022]
