The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is also promising, exhibiting aromas of rich berry fruit, dark chocolate and creamy new oak. It’s medium to full-bodied, velvety and supple, with an ample core of sweet fruit, ripe acids and melting tannins. This sample showed slight signs of fatigue, so I suspect that the final cuvee may make my score seem conservative.
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an attractive nose of dark berry fruit, sous-bois and light seaweed scents, though I would have liked a little more vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, touches of brown spice and white pepper, quite savoury towards the finish that gains some clarity with 10 minutes aeration. One of the appellation’s earlier drinking propositions, yet it unfolds nicely and maybe has something up its sleeve? Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2032
