The 2017 Echezeaux Grand Cru has a lot of new oak on the nose, although there is enough fruit to absorb that with bottle age, and feels a little generic at the moment, showing some brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black cherry and mulberry fruit, slightly lower acidity than its peers and a creamy-textured finish. I was surprised by this showing given my regard for Pascal Mugneret’s winemaking. Maybe it was just this bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
