There are just two barrels of the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru this year, partly due to the hail damage. It has a delightful bouquet with precise black and red fruit laced with sea cave-like aromas, gradually opening in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red cherry fruit, fine mineralite, quite tensile with plenty of energy emitting from the tensile finish. Excellent. [Neal Martin, 01/10/2019]
