The 2016 Barbaresco Cole (with only 3,000 bottles made) offers toasted notes of espresso rind, dark fruit and light tones of exotic spice. The wine is juicy, generous and fruit-forward with lots of dark concentration and saturated berry notes. The 2016 Barbaresco Cole shows the muscular, virile personality that is so typical of this tiny site in the village of Barbaresco. Graphite, smoke, leather, licorice and dark spice add to a feeling of gravitas. Readers will have to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to soften as the tannins are imposing at this early stage. As always, the Cole is the most muscular and explosive wine in the range.
