2016 Henri Jouan, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru, Les Sorbes Vielles Vignes 1x750ml

The 2016 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbe unfurls in the glass with a rich bouquet of ripe cherries, rose petal, orange rind and forest floor that’s more reticent than the expressive 2015 rendition was at the same stage. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a concentrated core of sappy fruit, racy acids and powdery tannins. While Jouan’s 2016 Clos Saint-Denis was still wide open when I recently tasted it, this premier cru is a little closed and only really opens with an hour’s aeration. [William Kelley, 04/30/2019]
