“A barrel sample to be bottled in January 2019, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red Wine has plum preserves, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote aromas that leap from the glass with hints of menthol, dark chocolate, licorice and cast iron pan plus touches of Sichuan pepper and violets. The palate is full-bodied, firm and very finely grained with great vivacity and depth, finishing very long.”
The 2016 Harlan Estate is one of the most polished, sublime wines I have ever tasted at Harlan Estate. Gracious and nuanced, with striking aromatic depth and silky tannins, the 2016 is absolutely gorgeous. The stylistic shift that has been underway here for a number of years is quite evident. Today, the 2016 is a bit shy, but it certainly has room to grow.
