A bottle of 2016 Giscours was dispatched from the chateau after a bottle misfired at the Southwold tasting. This example correlates to initial showings. Vivid blackberry and blueberry fruit soar on the nose after an hour’s decanting, beautifully defined with a patina of new oak discreetly interwoven. The palate oozes panache, very well defined with lace-like tannins, gentle grip and just a touch of graininess towards the finish such that it does not come across "over-polished." Afford it another couple of years in bottle if you can.
Anticipated maturity: 2028-2055
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Giscours gives up aromas of cassis, chocolate, earth, tar, pepper and hoisin with touches of flowers and a meaty nuance. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with a great core and a long finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2019-2035
