“A barrel sample to be bottled in February 2019, the 2016 St. Eden is deep garnet-purple colored, with crème de cassis, blackberry preserves and mulberries plus incense and stewed tea wafts and a hint of bouquet garni. The palate is full-bodied, tightly wound and very firm with wonderfully ripe, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and earthy.”
The 2016 St. Eden is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Soft tannins and plush fruit give the St. Eden much of its allure. In this tasting, the St. Eden comes across as delicate and restrained, with less of the overtness and volume it often shows as a young wine. Dark red and purplish berry fruit, lavender, rose petal, mocha and new leather fill out effortlessly. This is an especially hushed showing from the St. Eden.
